Scotland is renowned for its whiskies. Argyll and Bute is home to many of Scotland's best distilleries and a visit to them is both educational and entertaining. Skills that have been passed down through generations, as well as the untouched environment and pure waters throughout the region, all contribute to the area's amazing whiskies. The isle of Islay is home to nine of these distilleries, including Bowmore, which is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. They all welcome visitors, offering guided tours and a dram (a small drink) of local whisky. Many of the places in Argyll and Bute have their own distillery, including the minute Isle of Jura, explaining its notoriety as the Whisky Coast.
With so many islands and coastal landscape around Argyll and Bute, it would be hard not to get involved in some outdoor activities whilst there. Typical pursuits such as walking, cycling, horse riding and golf are all great ways to experience the beautiful natural landscape. However, the coast begs for water lovers. With an abundance of sea lochs and reefs to explore, water activities are a fantastic option.
